Role Deion

BlackRock FMC’s Fixed Income team is searching for a VP/Director, Head of Fixed Income Research to be based in Shanghai. In a newly created role, the successful candidate will lead a rapidly growing team of analysts. A highly skilled credit analyst themselves , the role also requires strong people management skills, and a comprehensive understanding of the regulatory environment we operate in. In addition to people management, the candidate will also be responsible for primary credit coverage of a defined list of Issuers and work collaboratively with partners across the firm. An understanding of the frameworks and methodologies of international Ratings Agencies is an advantage.

Generalists are encouraged to apply, although expertise in privately owned enterprises (POE’s) and High Yield is highly regarded. Candidates with knowledge of, and experience in applying Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) considerations are also encouraged.

As a key leader for the team, your responsibilities include:

Lead a rapidly growing team of high performing credit analysts

Ongoing improvement and enhancements to our Credit Research Investment process, including our Bond Pool framework

Strong understanding of regulatory requirements of local asset managers

Deep fundamental credit research on a defined list of Issuers. Ability to make an informed view on absolute credit risk as well as direction, momentum, and valuation. Financial models, credit analysis and trade ideas to be communicated to Portfolio Managers to inform investment decisions

Communication of views and market developments across the investment platform

Participating in conference calls, industry conferences, and discussions with management/rating agencies

Restructuring, event risk, capital structure, dominant/controlling shareholders, disruption

Working on adhoc projects based on topical issues/trends/reforms impacting industries

Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience:

Strong people manager and motivated team player, flexible in approach with ability to work independently

Excellent written and verbal communication skills - presents ideas in a clear, concise, and constructive manner and be able to communicate comprehensively in both Mandarin and English

Strong Excel, financial modelling, and analytical skills

MBA or equivalent qualification in Finance with superior academic record; CFA will be an added advantage

Excellent credit skills demonstrated through prior relevant experience (7+yrs years) working within an investment research environment

Familiarity with financial databases like WIND, Bloomberg, Capital IQ, etc

The Financial Institutions Group is responsible for establishing and maintaining relationships with BlackRock’s global financial institutions clients, which include insurance companies, banks, and other financial firms. We pride ourselves on creating and delivering bespoke investment solutions, advisory, and analyses to our sophisticated client base. The group is the industry's largest third-party manager of insurance company assets, and our insurance practice is a strategic focus of the firm.

APAC FIG operates as part of Global FIG. The team currently comprises more than 10 professionals with diverse backgrounds and skills, including relationship management, markets, sales, strategy, regulatory, client service, and product development, in addition to comprehensive insurance knowledge. The team is passionate about first class client coverage as well as further improving, evolving, and developing existing relationships.

Associate, APAC FIG, Hong Kong

The Associate, APAC FIG role is based in Hong Kong and reports to the Head of APAC FIG. This role provides an opportunity for an individual to become an integral member of a growing team of insurance industry leaders. He/she will work closely with the Head and senior leadership of APAC FIG, supporting them in new business development initiatives with strategically important insurance clients of BlackRock as well as business management initiatives. In so doing, the Associate will work closely with APAC FIG Relationship Managers, the Insurance Solutions team, APAC FIG Business Manager and a broad group of internal (investment/product/business management teams and support functions) and external partners.

Key Responsibilities:

Participate in all stages of new business development

Conduct market and company specific research

Perform quantitative and qualitative analyses

Assist in generation and execution of new ideas and solutions for clients in close partnership with Insurance Solutions team

Prepare/coordinate the preparation of presentations, discussion materials and other documents for clients as well as internal stakeholders as part of governance process

Assist in the day-to-day management of cross-functional projects directly related to new business development initiatives

Act as APAC lead for global and regional strategic, client-oriented initiatives and campaigns, including the Global Insurance Report, one of BlackRock’s flagship publications

Design interview questions for survey participants

Prepare media press release and Q&A

Draft roadshow presentations

Coordinate report translations, as relevant

Provide support to the APAC FIG team on a wide range of ad hoc requests from APAC and global senior management

Ideal candidate:

Skills/capabilities/experience/qualifications

Strong analytical and quantitative ability: capable of grasping concepts quickly, analyzing and synthesizing relevant information, and solving problems

Excellent communication and presentation skills: clear and effective written and verbal communication, capable of producing client-ready materials of a high quality

Strong execution: prioritizes tasks, pays close attention to detail and focuses on results

Excellent knowledge of MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Teams)

Confident and self-motivated: able to multi-task, work under pressure and with limited supervision, significant initiative

Team player attitude: able to work collaboratively with people of different levels, in different geographies and across various areas of the firm

Ability to work within a dynamic, energized team and to communicate with all levels of the organization (internal and external)

Fluency in English is required, additional North Asian language skills are highly appreciated

5 years of professional experience, preferably within a global financial services company

MBA or other advanced degree a plus
